More parking available in Altrincham for 10p
There are now ninety additional parking
spaces available at Oakfield Road car park in
Altrincham, less that a 10 minute walk to the
centre of town, following the demolition of
Oakfield House.
The area, previously taken up by the
building, has been made suitable for use as car
parking, adding to the number of spaces
available at Oakfield Road.
The new parking tariffs were introduced in
April following a consultation with residents,
local businesses and key groups and are designed
to support local businesses in the borough's
town centres. Feedback from the consultation
showed consultees were in favour of a low
initial charge to encourage people to make
better use of the town centres and that all day
parking prices in off-street car parks should be
increased slightly.
The charges are now 10p for one hour, 30p for
two, 70p for three hours and all day at £3.
Executive Councillor Alan Mitchell said:
"There has been a positive response to our new
parking tariffs and I am delighted that there is
now even more space for people to park to shop
and visit Altrincham."

Following the announcement to change parking tariffs in March after a consultation with residents, local businesses and key organisations within town centres the proposed date for change was June, however the Council recognise that businesses need our support and have worked hard to bring this in sooner.

From 22 April people using the relevant council car parks will see new lower charges from 10p for one hour, 30p for two and 70p for three hours, for a full list of charges please visit www.trafford.gov.uk/parking. Trafford Council and Chamber committed to ‘Building a Better Altrincham’
Trafford
Council and the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of
Commerce have launched a campaign in the run up
to Christmas on ‘Building a Better Altrincham’.
This is designed to attract more visitors to
Altrincham businesses and ensure that people are
aware of the exciting future plans for the town.

Altrincham is currently part way through a
£200m redevelopment programme which is expected
to bring more than 2000 jobs into the town,
contributing nearly £90m of gross value added to
the local economy and
encouraging
further inward investment – which is evidence of
investors’ confidence in the town. Whilst some
of these projects are currently pending there
are signs of recovery in the town, which was
affected by the recession like town centres
nationally.
Approximately three quarters of the retail
and leisure units which are available in the
town are occupied and over half of those that
are vacant are part of redevelopment projects
and so are expected to be filled once
redevelopment projects are completed.
The Council and the Chamber will be working
with other town centre organisations to
celebrate the town’s success stories and also
address areas that need improvement. They will
be working with local groups and organisations
including the Altrincham Town Centre Partnership
and the Police to look at and address any issues
within the town. This includes promoting the
town, temporary treatment to vacant units,
anti-social behaviour, litter and environmental
enforcement.
Leader of Trafford Council Matt Colledge
said: “We are committed to improving on
Altrincham’s reputation as a key retail, leisure
and business destination. Altrincham is an
affluent area and more than half of the people
living in the area use the town centre as their
first choice for retail and a number of upcoming
developments promise to improve the retail and
leisure offer even further.
“Whilst we recognise that the town centre has
suffered as part of the recession we are
committed to working with our partners to
achieve a vibrant, thriving and sustainable town
centre for the future.”
Chief Executive of Altrincham and Sale
Chamber of Commerce Barbara Hallwood commented:
“We all recognise that the town has a long way
to go, however we should harness the good news
stories that are coming out of the town. Looking
at the town centre, the Stamford Quarter covers
400,000 sq ft of retail space. Over the past few
months businesses have moved into this area and
by Christmas the Stamford Quarter will almost be
full. Recently Grainger Games opened in
Altrincham, their 36th store, HM Samuels
extended their lease and Pandora Jewellery will
open shortly.”
